Direct Care Facilitator
Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Care Facilitator for a new position in the Oshawa area.
The position involves working as part of a team under the supervision of the Program Supervisor(s) and Intervention Coordinator, with indirect reporting to the Clinical Social Worker and other senior leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Agency’s Mission, Vision, Values, and strategic plan.
- Providing relational care to children/youth in the program using a victim/survivor-centered approach.
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for children/youth.
- Observing and documenting well-being, addressing behaviors with trauma-informed techniques, and providing crisis support as needed.
- Building value and worth through everyday interactions.
- Promoting emotional regulation, self-esteem, and life skills through resilience-building.
- Addressing the physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs of each child/youth.
- Using evidence-based, harm-reduction practices tailored to each child/youth.
- Helping children/youth establish community connections and engage in pro-social activities.
- Collaborating with the Clinical Care Department on care, transition, and crisis planning.
- Identifying and advocating for the removal of systemic barriers in child/youth care.
- Supporting research and evaluation efforts as requested by leadership.
Qualifications:
- Education: Post-secondary education required (preferably a Bachelor in Child and Youth Care). A minimum of a three-year diploma in a related field is acceptable, or Survivors/Lived Experience with a clinical reference.
- Certification: Preference for membership in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care or certification through the Child and Youth Care Certification Board.
- Experience: Minimum two years of full-time experience in a residential or specialized child/youth program (e.g., Sex Trafficking, High Complex Needs). Preference for 5+ years.
- Knowledge: Expertise in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally safe practices, with a focus on Indigenous, Black, and LGBTQ+ communities. Familiarity with various counselling approaches (e.g., CBT, DBT, Mindfulness).
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
